| Summary |
"Gender differences in conversation and narration have been documented in several research fields. However, the literature provides little information about whether those language differences are discernible to a general audience. Phase One of the experiment included collecting narratives based on the book Tuesday by David Weisner. These narratives were produced by twenty total subjects divided evenly into four experimental groups: kindergarten male, kindergarten female, college male, and college female. Results revealed that linguistic differences existed between experimental groups. In Phase Two the narratives were read by 54 female graduate students to determine if the readers could accurately identify the age and gender of each narrator. The readers could identify age in 19 of the 20 narratives and gender in 8 of the 20 narratives."--Abstract. |
